Hochschule Mainz University of Applied Sciences

According to Hochschule Mainz’s website, “[s]hort periods of study, international courses and practical orientation – these are the characteristics of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, at which approximately 4400 students are currently studying.”   The University is focused on the practical application of knowledge in professional settings and attaches great importance to meeting student needs. The good relationship between students and professors is promoted by intensive guidance and support, small learning groups and a number of joint projects. Furthermore, they also endeavor to support our students in other areas of life and has earned the distinction of being the sixth university in Germany to be certified as a “family-oriented university”.
 
Mainz is located on the west bank of the Rhine river only 25 minutes west of Frankfurt, Germany by commuter train.  Mainz is a river port city and has a population of around 200, 000.  Similar to many other cities, Mainz offers landscaped public spaces, a variety of recreational areas as well as world class museums and cathedrals where students can explore the two thousand years of history in this area of Germany.  Johannes Gutenberg, credited with inventing the modern printing press, was born in Mainz and there is a museum here which honors his achievements.  Mainz also offers music, theater, art galleries, and a wide range of cultural events to suit every taste. Whatever time of year one decides to visit, there is always something taking place to stimulate the imagination.

Costs

Students approved by SIUE's School of Business and Hochschule Mainz to participate in this exchange program will be charged SIUE tuition for the anticipated SIUE equivalent courses and credit hours. In addition to the SIUE tuition, students will be billed for the information technology fee. All other SIUE student fees are waived. Students will receive a tuition waiver at University of Applied Sciences Mainz and pay only administrative fees and housing costs.

Housing

The Student Services Office is responsible for the accommodations in Mainz.  Students may stay at any one of the residential accommodation units.  Information about the accommodation options and other practical information is available in the Handbook.   Link:  https://goo.gl/UJYODP   

Academic Calendar:

Winter (Fall) Semester (Semester 1) lasts from September 28, 2015 through January 30, 2016.  (Orientation is September 21 to September 26, 2015)
 
Spring Semester (Semester 2) lasts from March 1, 2017 through August 31, 2017.  (Orientation is March 6 to March 11, 2017)
 

Eligibility

• Minimum 2.75 GPA
• This program is suitable for students pursuing the following degree programs at SIUE:
  • B.S. Business Administration
  • B.S. Accountancy
  • B.S. CMIS
  • B.S. Economics/Finance
  • B.A. Economics
  • Business Administration Minors
