Study abroad in Prague during January Term with AIFS Abroad and take part in a two-week academic program at Charles University, the most prestigious university in the Czech Republic and the oldest in Central Europe. Known for its enduring historical character, striking architecture, and influential artistic and literary traditions—including its legacy as the birthplace of Franz Kafka—Prague is an inspiring destination for a January Term study abroad program.
Students will enroll in one intensive course, Czech Language or Alternative Culture, earning three credits while studying alongside other international students. The Czech Language course supports authentic engagement with locals, and Alternative Culture explores Czech counterculture through street art, underground movements, punk, hip-hop, and political art collectives. Surrounded by preserved medieval streets, Gothic spires, and Art Nouveau cafés, students can spend their winter break connecting academic study with hands-on cultural exploration.

Charles University is the oldest university in Central Europe having been founded as Prague University in 1348 by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and of the Romans. Currently hosting more than 20,000 undergraduate and 25,000 graduate students, it is the largest and most prestigious academic institution in the Czech Republic with a reputation for international research and the creativity of its teaching.
AIFS Abroad is committed to a Learn-Connect-Grow academic framework that brings together our best practices accumulated during 60+ years of educating 1.6 million students. By focusing on the whole student and acknowledging the intersection of their identities, current academic needs, future goals, and the global landscape, we support students so they can thrive in our programs and beyond.
Professional development is at the foundation of our preparation for participants' time abroad. We utilize the CliftonStrengths assessment as a tool to help all participants understand themselves better, provide a vocabulary around their natural talents, and deepen the impact of their experience abroad.
As an organization we are committed to ensuring all identities are able to thrive in an inclusive global educational environment. Everyone has a complex identity, and the different aspects of your identity are important when deciding on a program and location. Review our Cultural Resources page to assist you when selecting a program that best fits your interests and needs.
